KINOVA RECOGNIZED BY THE GOVERNOR GENERAL

MONTREAL, QC CANADA – LA PRESSE article – “If we are able to send robots into space, we need to be able to help people in motorized wheelchairs get a glass of water. It was on this basis that two students from the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Charles Deguire and Louis-Joseph Caron L’Ecuyer, launched Kinova. Ten years later, the company was officially awarded the Governor General’s first ever Innovation Award. Kinova is the only company among the six award winners, created in June 2015.

TC Makers: Kinova Robotics Gives The Disabled A Helping Hand

Montreal-based Kinova Robotics was founded in part because of one man – the founder’s uncle, Jaco, a disabled inventor who created a manipulator for his wheelchair out of a hot dog pincher, some microswitches, and some complex electronics. This early attempt, while primitive, was the basis for a whole series of amazing – and amazingly useful – robotic arms.
